What is L.A. BRIDGES?

The L.A. Bridges Programis a city-wide strategy that is intended to reduce delinquent gang activity among youth. This program is a comprehensive effort to develop grass-roots structures dedicated to strengthen neighborhoods, families, and youth by supporting activities that protect communities and provide opportunities.

Collaborative Teams throughout the city implement specially designed activities which focus on youth ages 10-14 and their families. One team is the Nightingale Consortium, made up of Florence Nightingale Middle School and community-based organizations, and also includes youth representatives, parents, neighborhood schools, law enforcement, churches/congregations, local businesses, and local government.

In order to create positive, long-lasting deterrents to delinguent activity, the L.A. Bridges Program focuses on three dinstinctive elements: \

-Actualizing Youth Achievement -Strengthening Family Foundations -Promoting Community Action

Whom does L.A. BRIDGES Target?

The L.A. Bridges Program targets youth Between 10-14 years and their families who reside in the area surrounding Florence Nightingale Middle School. The program focuses on reducing risk factors such as: gang affiliation or precursory gang activity, poor academic performance, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, sexual experiementation, violent or criminal activity, and negative or violent family relationships.

L.A. Bridges receives referrals from Florence Nightingale Middle School, consortium members, law enforcement agencies, neighborhood families, and other community sources.
