Youth Advocacy Program (YAP) Overview

Youth are referred by LAPD or LAUSD to counseling. After the youth agrees to the terms of YAP, program participation is a diversion from criminal prosecution for youths who have been arrested. Parents are referred to YAP parenting programs by the city attorney's office. CAPP program as a diversion from criminal prosecution. All services shall be free to the client.

Youth Counseling

The agency provides educational, employment and family counseling to youth between the ages of 12-17 years old. Additional services include but are not limited to to court advocacy, community awareness, group workshops and positive role modeling. Youth counseling is available in Spanish and referrals to other agencies for services may be made. This program is funded by the Los Angeles County Probation Department.

 

Income and residence Requirements

The FDN program serves referred YAP clients who live anywhere within the City of Los Angeles.

Services

Youth clients must receive an initial assessment with parent participation and an individualized service plan from a counselor or case manager. Other supportive services to fulfill the 15 contacts may include: drug or alcohol prevention activities, conflict resolution/anger management training, family interaction activities, tutoring, mentoring, college/career exploration, community improvement, group or peer counseling, parenting instruction (for parents of LAPD-referred clients), teen discussion group, social, recreational or cultural activities.
